The Idea of Progression

Eighty years. That’s how much time people were given in the world. After eighty, people died, and nothing more could be done. It was the rule of law that forced progression in this society. Men work, women raise children, children be children. The young live, the middle-aged work and marry, the old pass wisdom and die. Eighty years from birth to death.

True, some would die due to disease or war. Many would live and push through and live as they were meant to. Lives would be fulfilled and gained redemption and reward for years. Eighty years is the time that people are given to progress as far as possible. After that a price is demanded. A print is forced about those who have lived their lives.

DNR, or Do Not Revive, tattooed above the place of the heart. People who have lived so long have given all that they can for the progression of society. These are husbands and wives who have lived and reared. The burden of the old and infirmed is no longer an issue for the progress of mankind. A mandatory tattoo was placed for a birthday present. If one were to get in a car accident or have a heart attack with a DNR tattoo, then nothing can be done.

Some senators from Florida determined the elderly had lived their lives and contributed as much as they could. Taking from the young and being a burden on their children and grandchildren. The old and elderly are respected and valued for their experience, and they understand that they cannot help beyond their time. The DNR is to purely reinforce and recognize their life and be proud. It is not their fault. It is their reward and treasure. To know that they shan’t be a burden on those who continue to live and push forward.
