Slipspace on route to Pegasus II

Cryo officer quarters

Lieutenant Michelle Joshua Rodriguez was awake for most trips of cryo travel. She was one of the few crew that had to remain thawed in case something bad was to happen. She was cross trained on most engineering systems and with the on board AI to help train her, and her work was usually immaculate. It was usually just simulators as real life problems would be difficult to perform in slipspace.

Michelle was a recent graduate of Luna moon academy and was well versed in modern space travel and combat scenarios. She was considered to be a bit of a radical by most of her peers and comrades as she believed in intelligent alien life. Most alien life reported by colonies was little more than livestock. With over 200 colonies and no reports of intelligence. She held out hope though.

Being a cryogenic engineer, Rodriguez had many ways to keep herself occupied. It was often her joy to play in the gym. While in normal space gravity was easy to predict and explain. In slipspace, however, gravity took a different spin from time to time. Playing basketball games would have been hilarious to watch. While the ball never outright left the area, it would sometimes shift to the left or right while maintaining its arch.

She played with the other engineers and while they were all bad, the physics of slipspace travel caused them to be worse. Shifting space with odd gravitational shifts causes the ball to fly or sink.

The A.I.s were no help either. Robert and Lisa sat in holographic stands with pennants in hand and a shared bucket of popcorn. They rooted and cheered and laughed while watching the antics of physics. While some played others were off the side with white boards and compared notes with how slipspace work. While mankind had discovered slipspace, very few knew how it worked. We challenged each other with thoughts and theories and when we appeared back in reality, we will send back our reports.

Do they plan to get famous from it? No. But perhaps their shoddy research will allow for someone else to discover something new.

Whenever recreation was over, back to work it was. Making sure that all pods were still cold and frozen. Robert would be sure to alert her if anything needed immediate attention. She slept and ate. Exercise was mandatory. Life whilst traveling through slipspace was quiet, but there was never something not to do. Rodriguez made her daily routine something desirable. Life was quiet yet peaceful. She knew that her peace would not last when everybody woke up. She would continue to live on and her days would go on and on.
