Fun times with military funding – 1. The Dragon Submarine

The Dragon Submarine

These oddly maneuvered submarines lope along shorelines like some sort of mythical dragon. High curves going up and down. This was only the distraction to the actual danger of these ship. This ship is an advance troop transport. Able to silently deliver a hundred men to a beach head and secure a clean passage for surface vessels. The slingshot delivery system for the soldiers is inspired. Within each of the five humps came a slingshot system able to shoot five soldiers from its system for a stealthy insertion, able to empty its complement in a total of twenty minutes and be back on its way for another load.

It is only in its delivery that the ship needs to break the surface in its dragon-like way. Underwater it locks itself back into position and looks like any other submarine. It has a standard compliment of torpedoes, however, only the front of the submarine has crew quarters for navy personnel. Instead of a conning tower as seen in most attack subs and missile subs, the dragon has a forward bridge complete with thick windows to see outside.

As the dragon has many intricate parts and moving systems the diving depth for this ship is no more than three hundred feet. Able to move at a brisk pace of thirty seven knots.

Another interesting feature about this boat is the ability to unhook and scuttle the transport part of the ship. This feature should only be used in the most dire of circumstances as it effectively destroys the ship’s reusability. The detaching of the troop deployment section will drastically improve the sub’s speed and diving ability, but will also limit the offensive capabilities and long-term survival.
