Years ago

In house 

On a hill

A father had a broke leg 

And a three year old child to care for

The days were warm outside 

And one of these day 

The father in his wheelchair 

Took his son for a walk around the house

The son got some joy at being able to push his father around

And in a moment of slight distraction 

The son let loose his grip

The chair with dad began to descend down the hill

Panic gripped the child and he could not stop his father’s chair

He ran to neighbors’ doors

None were home

Dad kept his head and tried to slow down so he would not crash at level ground

The wheels had many large divots 

And the chair eventually came to a halt.

Try as the might the father and son could not get the chair back up the hill

They waited 

And waited

A passing neighbor with a truck toted 

Father son and broken chair back to the house on top of the hill

Any more days that they would have outside

Would be in the backyard.
