For my daughter, As my mother

I was a child once, long ago

I played and conquered

The playground was my world

I owned every slide and swing

I maintained the dominance with a loud word

A word of power that summoned a fierce dragon

Mom!

I fell down and scraped my knees

Mom was there with bandages and alcohol

I fell off the swings and bumped my head

Mom was there with soothing words

Every time I fell

Mom was there

She would be there and heal my wounds

And utter a song as she cuddled the pain away.

Now that I am grown

I have relinquished my throne and lands

And the princess takes up the call to summon the dragon

Daddy!

There is no little boy that can match my fire

I protect my treasure with a fire that would burn down cities

Anytime I am summoned I know that I am needed more than anyone else

Or to just smush an icky spider.
