Chapter 2 – The new aircraft carriers
In the absence of the behemoths that once ruled the oceans, new ones were made to rule the skies as the were always meant to. The giant blimp like objects were the new aircraft carriers. Nets and fabrics were as present as jets flew their hypersonic paths through and into the flycatchers before being refueled and released. The planes were robotic drones that could swarm and devastated any enemy target in a matter of minutes. The pilots were either safely back on shore or in the aircraft carrier itself being some of the only human presence on board the mighty craft.
It used to be that countries would fear the mention of the aircraft carriers, now they no long need rumors as they can be seen from miles away. The drones fell from one of the seven struts that made up the central structure. The drones are outfitted with microfusion cells and can maintain flight for four hours until they need a recharge.
The defense drones are the ones that make up the bulk of the flyers and defense of the massive airship. They are outfitted with a 12mm high velocity machine gun, and a small explosive brick. There are between one to five hundred zooming around the blimp airship.
The zoomers are a high speed attack craft affixed with hypersonic engines and a half a kiloton of high explosive. They are fast and precise. Able to hit their targets with ninety-nine percent accuracy.
The last drone are an engineering drone. After a large storm or a battle the aircraft carrier will fall into disrepair, it is up to the hundred smaller blimps to get out on the surface of the balloons and repair them to maintain the worthiness of their home base.
The engineering and defense drones are programmed with simple A.I.s that are called Chuck and Gary. Chuck is the engineer and Gary is the defense. These two intelligences are given simple instructions: defend and maintain.
There is a human presence on board very minimal as a rule no more than twenty-five. Men are exceedingly difficult to maintain compared to the drones and the automation that maintains them. Men need fresh food and water, room to sleep and exercise, be working and entertained. With all the needs of men, drones and their artificial minds maintain a very close watch on the seas and all their dangers.
