Adventure 3/10
Realism 0/10
Originality 2/10
First time doing a review for a movie, so here it goes. Uncharted is an action/ adventure movie based upon the video game series of the same name. The movie follows adventurer Nate Drake in his search for his brother. Nate, at the start of the film, is shown to be a bartender with some light fingers. Too bad that is the only part of the film where we see Nate’s deft hands at work. Through a simple lift, Nate is introduced to Sully. Sully is introduced as a confidence man and thief, a collector of historically priceless antiques. Sort of like a scummy Indiana Jones that becomes an honest Indy by the end. Ok So back to Nate, Nate and Sully contrive a plan to steal a priceless, security locked, gold cross from an overly expensive auction house that cares not for security or identifying badges, the pair practically walk in steal the valuables and walk out. With an adventure down through the sewer system that mixed ancient artifacts with modern day hijinks, Nate and Sully find the treasure map that leads them to a high profile vacation island in the Philippines. Now, I would have had no problem with the island. if it was not an ISLAND RESORT. How many people a year go to an island resort and not go looking for an adventure? This treasure supposedly remained undiscovered for 500 years. But a beat and skip later using what can only be described as Disney magic. Seriously, don’t leave a buried treasure hidden on a Resort Island inside a cave that has sunshine bearing on two colonial-era ships like a freaking spotlight. How this treasure remains hidden through so many wars and colonial expansion is the bigger mystery than what happened to Nate’s brother Sam. Anyway, after the bad guy clearly expressed that the boat was priceless, bad guys with guns are loaded onto it and an exciting midair battle with lots of CG stunts and the priceless ship being destroyed without concern. Explosions raining gold and severely deteriorated wood spreading the fortune all over the island resort. In the end, Nate and Sully find that, with a few trinkets of pocket gold, friendship was the real treasure. Ugh, cliche.
Major problems that I will mention
How the heck can you have a conversation while parachuting? You cannot hear voices while falling at 32ft/sec/sec. Myth buster busted this
Watch the first minute here, to understand
An Underground ancient path would have been demolished by modernization. Sad to say, The past is old and the foundations are often buried under the new cities.
Auction houses have impeccable security. They are very sure of their clients and the safety of their patrons. Such a snatch and grabbed should be deemed impossible.
A cannon taking out a helicopter? Hmmm? Seems Sony stole something from Clive Cussler. It’s been done. Not original at all.
An airship battle? Still not original. 3 Musketeers (2011)
This would have been a good action/adventure movie if I had never seen an action movie. But since I have this movie is pretty low on my scale of what a good adventure should be. Take out the disney magic and put in some of the realism that the game had in it and have the movie be decent. 1 out of 5 stars
