Do you understand

Do you understand what you have done?

You went and got married.

There was very little thought placed into it.

You dated for six weeks.

You said the vows.

You celebrated.

You got pregnant.

Had a child.

A beautiful baby girl.

The surrounding family was filled with joy.

You both found out that the husband was violent.

The family sided with the wife.

As they were her family.

The separation lead to divorce

Mom and Dad,

Two separate households,

The parents both work all the time.

Who cares for the child?

Do they even care?

Nay, their lives that ought to surround their daughter,

But no their attention is looking toward their careers,

Towards their next fling,

Their phones are their children.

The grandparents that live far and away,

Have taken up custody of the child,

They school her,

They clothe and bathe her,

They care for her and pay attention to her.

Mother,

Father,

Do you understand what you have done?

She goes to school,

Instead of running rampant.

She eats balanced meals,

Instead of McNuggets.

She gets read to at night,

Instead of crying herself to sleep.

Her life is cared for,

Instead of being a hindrance toward You.

Do you understand what you have done?
