What defines a king?

Is it his land?

Nay, the people say.

Is it his crown?

Nay, say the people.

Is it his birthright?

Some may contest that claim.

It is his castle?

Nay, say the people.

Is it his armies?

Nay, his men state.

A king is defined by the people that follows him,

They come when called,

They would follow even the most meger of men,

If he would but lead.

They live in huts underwater,

If he would stay near them.

His wealth could be nothing more than wood carvings,

If but the people had warm fires.

They would follow his son,

If he proved as reliable as the father.

His armies would be vast,

As long as his people were fed.

This is what a king should aspire to.

To be a leader and look to the future while staying grounded in the present.
