Do you follow the rules?
Do you understand the rules?
Do you trust yourself about the basics?
Do you think of yourself as creative,
Because you know the rules?
Here is my truth of the rules.
They are made to be broken away from.
They are there as a restricting force,
For the beginning,
They exist to guide at first,
Your beginning starts with them.
Only through breaking away,
Can creativity be unleashed,
A phoenix shall rise from the ashes,
And understanding shall finally be awakened,
For art is not ruled by rules.
Painters shall paint,
Not only faces,
Not just memories,
They shall make their imagination real,
They depic battles that never happen,
Show landscapes of the impossible,
The rules that they follow,
Essential at first,
Does not flow according to their philosophies,
Sculpturers shall mold,
For what man of rules could see a figure in a brick?
It is through our imagination,
That a brick,
Becomes polished and beautiful to behold,
None dares questions that what seems to them,
Impossible.
Authors shall write,
For far away lands,
People that never exist,
Animals that talk,
Dreams are interpreted through an author’s imagination.
All this to say,
Rules are important at the beginning,
They are the training wheels,
That all artists start with,
It is through our maturing,
That we find our balance,
And we can begin to soar.

One response to “Training Wheels”
But some rules are for our safety
But I understand what you are saying in you monologue, kind of like taking a compass and going off the map!
