Descent of Dragos- 11

February 7, 2078

“It’s goblins again.” Ralphie said as he tore the small robot’s head from its small body. Ralphie had begun to mature faster than his siblings. Already he was a full head taller than both Mary and Eve. He had become very protective of his sisters, and because of that he had bulked up considerably. His magical abilities were primarily focused on enhancing and fortifying his own body.

“Goblins aren’t much of an issue.” Mary said. “It is the orcs and ogres that come after that are much more of an issue.” She expended a small amount of magic and swatted away five more with little effort. Mary had done little in the way of development, perhaps a little taller and more femenie. Her magical power were more focused in destructive capabilities rather than support or creation.

“They are little more than a distraction through and through.” Eve had froze the ten that had encircled her, then blasted them with fire. They cracked and splintered into many pieces. “Toys and nothing more.” Eve had grown the most powerful in the realm of magic. Though she still resembles a child, her powers could even rival Ed in all respects except destructive capabilities. The true queen of the new world. Gaia had even been giving her and Mary special lessons on how to improve their abilities.

Two helicopters could be heard up above. The sound of cables detaching from the copters and something big came crashing down. Two giant robotic tanks came crashing through the foliage.

“The general must be getting desperate.” Eve said. “Ogres will tear through the forest to catch us. We must do something to stop them.”

The giant tanks opened fire and their rounds tore up trees and blasted the ground. Eve tried to cast a blasting magic of her own, but it failed to be big enough to dent the auto vehicle. Mary tried her hand at a piercing wind spell, the tank shrugged that off with no damage. Ralphie was next and he had nothing but diversionary tactics that would allow his sisters to try again.

“Blasting didn’t work.” Mary said.

“And slicing was a no go.” stated Eve.

“You guys better come up with something quickly. I am getting tired of getting shot at.” Ralphie said.

The tanks hadn’t fired their main cannons for sometime. They kept trying with their smaller machine guns to hit Ralphie. They hit every so often, but due to his magical abilities and only true weakness to silver, he received no actual damage. It was like getting hit with pins at the weight of a freight train.

“Ralphie hold them off for ten more seconds, I have a new idea that I think may work.” Eve said.

One of the tanks halted its attack on Ralphie and turned its attention to Mary, who had been pelting it with fireballs. The ogre did not even get hampered by the continuous magic and it lined its main cannon up for a precise shot. Mary worked quickly to erect a shield and prepared to receive the shot. The kinect shot pierced the shield and broke the branch that she stood on. She was knocked to the ground, unconscious.

Ralphie roared in response and leapt forward on top of the tank and began to claw and hack at it. He made no damage to the armored vehicle. The tank in response threw him to the ground and pinned him there under foot.

The other tank lined up its sights on Mary and was prepared to fire point blank. Mary woke up in time to look away from her impending doom.

A bright light shone forth and time itself seemed to have stopped. The light sprung forth in all directions and the eyes that could have seen it, were now blind. Eve had poured out the power that she collected. It was a light akin to a star. The tanks fell over, for only their leg were left.

Eve did seem to pass out as she had expended too much magical energy to defeat her foes. Though she did fall, it was into her father’s arms. Ed had caught her and laid her down into a moss patch nearby. Ed had watched the battle and was about to intervene when Eve had unleashed her stored power. The starlight was impressive, but too much it seems to maintain her composure. Maybe with more time, she might be able to control it.

Mary and Ralphie both were fine after they got out from under the mangled tanks. All three of the children still had a ways to go. They were on the right track though.

The first children of men that were to be imbued with magic were coming of age. Perhaps Mary, Eve, and Ralphie would be able to lead the new children against the adults that feared the magical change that Earth was going through.
