Hopefully the first of many

The 42nd

By Zachary Furr

Episode 1 – the Hotel

Hotel managers come and go, but the owner stays. This is the way it has been for years. The owner had been in the 42nd, on the forty-first floor, in the number one room, three doors away from the elevators and two away from the stairs. Each flight of stairs has thirteen steps, there are eighty-four flights.

The first floor contains the lobby. The first basement contains the exercise center, first class accommodations all the way: hot tub, olympic swimming pool, sauna, spa treatments and massages. Though it is in the basement, none of the guest have ever complained about the scenery.

Next accomodation and probably the most important is the lobby. For this displays the grandeur of days past. It is always staffed with a management team that accommodates most requests of the guest. The walls are layered in the soft, golden light and artwork that displays the true beauty of mankind. For the lobby always looks immaculate.

The second floor is completely devoted to the restaurant called, “The Ranch”. This five star restaurant caters to wealthy and famous guests of the 42nd. Right out of the elevator and at the top of the stairs, guests are greeted by the M’trydi, who instructs them to wait. For the table is not set until the guests arrive. Plates are set, knives and forks beside, a single spoon above the rest. Wine and water glasses, knapkins, and mints in the middle, for nothing is better for cleansing the palette. The food that is served is exquisite and, seemingly, without end. Everything from steak to lobster, breakfast to dinner, liquor to water, the menu could have whatever one desired to eat. There was no limit.

The business center is on the whole third floor. For no hotel can last without the property to do business properly. Any business done in the hotel, remained in the private lives of the guests, for those that are allowed in the business center must pay an annual fee for the exquisite service.

Floors four through twenty are single rooms, twenty rooms per floor. Bed, closet, toilet, shower: people that came through lacked for little. Floors twenty-one through forty-two, these were the condos, four per floor. These were saved for the long term guests, for there were many.

Welcome to the 42nd.
