To the Lady that adopted me

To the lady that adopted me

By Zachary Furr

Dear madam,

You know my plot

You have seen my family

My mother and father

My siblings

You know we do not live well

We live in the woods

Surrounded by nature

No running water

No semblance of society

Dear lady

You have taken a keen interest in me

I thank you

You have made the sacrifice

Of time

Of knowledge

Of friendship

Of family

Dear Madam

You took your time to notice me

You took time to get to know me

You took time to get to know my needs

And my family’s needs

Your time has given me hope

Dear lady

You have passed on your knowledge to me

You have seen my needs

You know that I was dumber than a bag of hammers

You have shown patience and understanding

Through books that you have given me

Through pencil marks

And scrap paper

You taught me to read

Given me the power of arithmetic

You have given me hope for tomorrow

Dear Madam

Your friendship means more to me

Than any of the lessons you have given

For without your friendship

The lessons would be meaningless

Without your constant pushing and striving

I don’t know what sort of life I would have had without you guidance

You have shown me how to hope

Dear grandmother

I feel that I should call you that

After all our time spent together

You have fed me

You have clothed me

You have taught me

You have nurtured me

Though you weren’t here for my birth

You found me in the dark

You cared enough for my safety that you rescued me from my parents

Dear Lady

I thank you
