Legacy
By Zachary Furr
To my children
That have yet to exist
You have made me proud.
I may not know you
I may not even know if you are alive
I may see you on the road
I may see you in a plane
I may know you in the future
I may have known your mother in the past
Nevertheless, you have made me proud.
I hope that my words will reach you
I pray that your mother will keep this
I need you to listen
I want you to know
That I am proud of you
Not many fathers will tell their children these five words
Too many fathers wait til it is too late
And too many fathers are not there at all
You deserve to read at least
I am proud of you
You may grow to be bigger than me
You may learn to be more clever than I
You may be just as quick
Regardless, I am proud of you.
If I am only a part of your life
In words I produced you
And for that alone
You are blessed
By me
I am proud of you.
